Mt Shasta and Lava Beds NM

Today was filled with lots of driving, as we headed from the bay area up north. We didn’t get to the Shasta area until ~1PM. And be careful speeding along those stretches of highway 5 with really not much going on, as I found out the hard way today (ouch).

We were attempting to make it to Lava Beds National Monument earlier in the day, but we kind of got a late start and stopped for lunch in Redding. Visibility wasn’t the best due to a constant haze throughout the day. It made for some rather mysterious sunset pictures in Lava Beds NM. And near Lava Beds are beautiful Klamath Lakes that harbor birds of all sorts. We also spotted plenty of deer, and a coyote in the distance.
